It’s the smart choice for budding apprentices

We will shortly be looking to recruit for Smart Metering Apprentices in the above locations.

This is your chance to develop a number of useful skills with us. Skills that could prepare you for the world of work and, if you show the right potential, into a 12-month-long Smart Metering Apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship

We’ll give you a mix of practical experience out in the field with the support of a mentor, and blocks of training at a Midlands-based college – your accommodation costs will be covered by E.ON. In addition to that, you’ll spend time at our Field Head Office in the West Midlands and potentially at one of our contact centres, which will give you a fantastic overview of how everything works. We’ll pay you a salary over the course of the year as well as investing in your education – at the end of the apprenticeship, you’ll have an NVQ.

Where it will lead

After the apprenticeship, you’ll be a fully-fledged Dual Fuel Metering Technician on a salary of £17,000 per year which will rise as you grow in experience. You’ll travel to customer homes throughout the area to remove existing electricity and gas meters and install, commission and configure new equipment.

It’s an important role – not only will you be demonstrating the new metering equipment to customers and answering any questions, you’ll also be helping us to take our smart meters to the next level. These meters show customers the energy they’re using and help them to change their energy habits for the better, but we think that’s just the beginning. We’re looking at how we can use them to power all sorts of innovative energy management solutions for homes right across the country. That means it couldn’t be a more exciting time to join this part of our business.

Essential skill requirements

  • A full valid UK/EU driving licence (preferably clean, but with a maximum of 6 points).
  • Plenty of initiative and self-motivation – you’ll have a mentor, a line manager and a supportive team around you, but once you complete the apprenticeship you’ll mainly be working on your own out of your home base.
  • Great interpersonal skills – you’re someone who genuinely enjoys giving top-notch customer service.
  • A drive for delivering technical excellence – you’ll be full of enthusiasm and you’ll take real pride in your work.

  • At least 4 GCSE grade A-C (or equivalent).

Impress us, and you’ll progress in terms of your role, the opportunities on offer, and the rewards you receive.
